The AASL Board of Directors is a dynamic, competency-based leadership team composed of elected members, including the president, president-elect, immediate past president, secretary/treasurer, division councilor, and directors-at-large. Together, they drive AASL’s mission by setting annual priorities, goals, and budgets while upholding the policies that shape the association’s future.
Estimated Time Commitment
The AASL Board of Directors meets during monthly virtual meetings and face-to-face during three meetings at the ALA Annual Conference.
Special Considerations
Running for an elected position requires current, personal membership in AASL.
Skills, Knowledge, or Experience
An effective candidate possesses strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, allowing them to set priorities, make informed decisions, and guide the organization toward its goals. A deep understanding of school librarianship, including emerging trends, policies, and best practices, ensures they can advocate effectively for the profession. Working Group Composition
The AASL Board of Directors includes the association’s president, president-elect, immediate past president, secretary/treasurer, the AASL representative to ALA Council, and four directors at large. The AASL Executive Director is an ex officio non-voting member of the Board of Directors.
