AASL maintains three member sections that represent a special field of activity within the profession:
The Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) is dedicated to shaping the future of school librarianship by focusing on higher education programs that prepare aspiring professionals to lead and innovate in PreK-12 library settings.
The Independent Schools Section (ISS) is a dedicated space for meaningful discussion and action on the challenges and opportunities within every aspect of non-public school librarianship.
The Supervisors Section (SPVS) is a dynamic space for school library leaders to connect, strategize, and drive solutions for the challenges of all phases of school library supervision.

Running for an elected position requires current, personal membership in AASL.

Working Group Composition
