National Conference Program Reviewer
The AASL National Conference is the only national event dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders.
As a program reviewer you will get a sneak peek of potential conference sessions and offer insight and feedback to ensure the AASL National Conference meets the needs and interests of school librarians in diverse practice settings across the country.
Reviewers are needed for concurrent session programs, research empowering practice programs, and IdeaLab presentations.
Estimated Time Commitment
Reviews will be assigned in early March with approximately 3-4 weeks to complete. All materials are reviewed, scored and commented online. Detailed instructions and helpful tips will be provided to all reviews.
Each proposal will take approximately 10-15 minutes to review. Reviewers who would like to spread the reviews out should plan for approximately 2 hours of reviews per week, or approximately 6-8 hours total.
Skills, Knowledge, or Experience
AASL looks for a broad representation when assigning proposal reviews to ensure each proposal is being reviewed by colleagues (e.g. a program on primary picture books is reviewed by primary school librarians, a program on senior capstone projects is reviewed by secondary school librarians). No specific skill, knowledge, or experience required other than your experience as a school librarian.
Working Group Composition
This volunteer position is essential to conference planning and program reviewers should reflect a diverse group of practitioners from within the AASL community. Therefore, reviewers will be assigned proposals to review based on geographical location, number of years in the profession, and current job title.
