Leadership Development Committee
The Leadership Development Committee is tasked with presenting a slate of candidates for approval by the AASL Board of Directors. It collaborates with AASL staff to develop a comprehensive “call for candidates” strategy and content, while actively encouraging participation in volunteer positions within AASL. The committee submits the candidate slate for review by the AASL Board of Directors, all while fostering greater engagement in AASL elections.
Deliverables & Outcomes
- Develop a “call for candidates” plan and content in coordination with AASL staff.
- Encourage and promote volunteer positions and participation in AASL.
- Respond to individual members, as necessary, concerning specific questions regarding nominations and elections.
- Assist the president-elect with identifying volunteers for committee appointments.
- Submit the slate of candidates to be considered to the AASL Board of Directors.
- Encourage and promote participation in AASL elections.
Estimated Time Commitment
This committee’s work takes place in the fall with virtual meetings. (Approximately 5-7 hours.)
Some independent work between meetings is required. (1-2 hours)

Preferred:

A strong network within the AASL community and beyond can help in identifying potential candidates, reaching out to volunteers, and encouraging participation in elections.

Familiarity with AASL’s mission, structure, and goals will help inform decisions about candidate suitability and how best to promote engagement with the organization.
Committee Composition & Term Length
A committee of seven (7) or more members shall be appointed by the AASL President-Elect. The AASL Immediate Past President shall serve as Chair and be the only board member on the committee. The composition of the committee shall reflect the constituency of the AASL membership.
