Bylaws & Organization Committee
The AASL Bylaws and Organization Committee plays a critical role in maintaining the structural and operational integrity of AASL. This committee is tasked with reviewing, revising, amending, and drafting bylaws and policies while providing thoughtful recommendations to the AASL Board of Directors. Participation in this committee ensures compliance and alignment with overarching organizational standards.
Deliverables & Outcomes
- Review all requests for bylaws changes and make recommendations to the AASL Board for appropriate action.
- Review all requests for new policies or changes to policies.
- Review and updates AASL policies per review date schedule.
- Ensure that AASL Bylaws and policies fall within the parameters of ALA Bylaws and Policies.
Estimated Time Commitment
This committee meets twice a month for two hours during the AASL governance year of July 1 through June 30. (Approximately 40 hours.)
Some independent work between meetings is required. (1-2 hours)

Skills, Knowledge, or Experience
Preferred:
- Ability to carefully review and evaluate bylaws and policies to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Familiarity with organizational bylaws, policies, and the role of governing boards (experience with ALA or AASL bylaws is especially helpful).
Committee Composition & Term Length
One chair serving a one-year term.
Up to five members, each serving a two-year term.
