Best Digital Tools for Teaching & Learning Committee
Each year, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) encourages school librarians, developers, and vendor partners to submit nominations for consideration for the Best Digital Tools for Teaching & Learning . The AASL Best Digital Tools recognition honors outstanding digital resources that transform the learning experience by fostering innovation, collaboration, and creativity. These tools are not only user-friendly, but also encourage active participation, exploration, and provide valuable information and references. Each selected resource is carefully evaluated for its alignment with the AASL National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries—ensuring they support the development of essential skills for today’s learners.
The AASL Best Digital Tools for Teaching & Learning Committee will make final determination of recognition list for AASL Best Digital Tools for Teaching and Learning annually.
Deliverables & Outcomes
- Reviews application information and encourages and promotes submissions.
- Ensures accurate and timely review of applications.
- Reviews and submits any recommended changes in policy or recognition criteria to the AASL Board of Directors for consideration at ALA Annual Conference.
Estimated Time Commitment
The estimated time commitment for this process is contingent upon the number and types of submissions received. Committee members should anticipate reviewing submissions starting in December and continuing through March. Reviews can be conducted at a self-paced rate but must be completed before the first committee meeting. Overall, the time required for reviewing submissions and submitting scores and reviews is expected to total approximately 40-60 hours.
The committee will convene a minimum of three times, with each meeting lasting no more than one hour. Meetings will begin in late March and conclude by late April.

The AASL Award Committees are a wonderful mixture of those new to committee work and veterans.

One chair serving a one-year term.
A minimum of ten members each serving a two-year term.
